Solutions for Cracking or Distortion of the Shape of Workpiece after Quenching Process
To prevent the workpiece cracking and to reduce the shape distortion after quenching process. Solutions to prevent cracking are as follows:
1. Workpiece design
The shape of the workpiece to be as simple as possible, symmetrical, try to avoid a sudden change in cross-sectional size, do not have sharp edges and corners. Otherwise, the workpiece is not only easy to produce the shape of quenching distortion, and easy to crack.
2. Selection
The shape of complex, easy to produce the shape of distortion and cracking of the workpiece should be used high-hardenability alloy steel in order to lower the cooling capacity of the cooling medium or quenching quenching in order to reduce the internal stress generated during quenching .
3. Forging and Preliminary Heat Treatment
The manufacture of cross-sectional size of the larger alloy steel and high alloy steel forging parts of the workpiece must be repeated upsetting stretching, in order to better eliminate dendritic segregation and carbide segregation. 4. Heating

5. Cooling operation

6. Straightening 
Usually after the workpiece is cooled to room temperature or tempering.

7. Crack inspection 

Under normal circumstances the surface cracks can be seen with the naked eye.
